What to Bring and Wear
Gear and swimwear for training and racing
Please label everything with your swimmer's full name using a permanent waterproof marker.
Every Training Session
Two pairs of goggles: Bring a spare in case one breaks or leaks.
Two training caps: Caps can rip and wear out.
Drink bottle: Make sure it's clearly labelled with your swimmer's name.
Towel: A quick drying towel is ideal.
Training swimwear: Choose a well fitting swimsuit that stays comfortably in place. Briefs, jammers and one piece suits are all suitable for training.
Your squad may need additional equipment. Check the Training Gear Guide or ask your coach what is required for your squad.
Swimwear
We recommend having at least two swimsuits, one for training and one for racing.
Training: Choose a comfortable, well fitting swimsuit that stays in place during training.
Racing: Technical racing suits are designed for competition and can help reduce drag in the water. Fit is important, and tighter does not always mean better. Ask your coach for advice before buying a technical suit.
Swimwear rules and age requirements can apply to technical racing suits. Check the current Swimming Victoria swimwear guidelines before buying.
For competitive swimmers, make sure any racing suit meets the current World Aquatics approved swimwear requirements.
Yarra Plenty Waves supports Swimming Australia's Inclusive Swimwear Policy and aims to ensure swimmers can participate comfortably and confidently.
