Child Safe Policy

Children and young people have the right to be safe from abuse at all times.

Children and young people have the right to be safe from abuse at all times, including when they are in sporting environments.

The Club has adopted Swimming Australia’s National Integrity Framework. This includes the following two documents:

  • Swimming Australia’s Child Safeguarding Policy

  • Swimming Australia’s Member Protection Policy

Copies of these policies can be accessed via the Safe Sport Framework page on Swimming Australia’s website (www.swimming.org.au)

In accordance with Swimming Australia’s Child Safeguarding Policy all applicants for employment at Yarra Plenty Waves or Yarra Swim School are required to undergo extensive screening and background checks.

All paid staff, volunteer committee members, officials and other volunteers who could potentially have unsupervised contact with children are required to have a valid Working With Children Check.

The Yarra River, from which our club is named, is known as Birrarung, meaning River of Mists in the language of Woiwurrung spoken by the Wurundjeri.

We acknowledge the Wurundjeri people as the traditional custodians of this land. We respect their unique ability to care for the country and their deep spiritual connection to it. We honour Elders Past and present, who have resided in the area and who are an integral part of the region's history.
