What is the Next Wave clinic?
The Next Wave clinic is a talent development program for selected swimmers. It helps young athletes refine technique, build confidence, and experience squad-style training with Yarra Plenty Waves coaches.
Who can take part?
This program is by invitation only. Families have been contacted directly by Yarra Swim School.
How much does it cost?
$90 for the full three-session clinic (best value)
$35 per individual session if you cannot attend all three
What should my child bring?
Bathers, goggles, swim cap, towel, and a water bottle
Small snack for after training (optional)
Fins, kickboard or other gear if you already have them, otherwise, these are available to borrow
What swimwear and equipment are recommended?
Swimwear: Choose durable, chlorine-resistant bathers. Boys should wear briefs or jammers; girls are best in one-piece suits. Avoid loose board shorts or rash vests, as they restrict movement.
Swim caps: Essential for comfort and performance. Silicone caps are preferred as they fit better, last longer, and reduce drag. Pack a spare if possible.
Hydration: Keep a labelled water bottle poolside and encourage regular sips.
What happens after the clinic?
Swimmers are encouraged to take part in the YPW Swim Meet on Sunday, 5 October. A supportive first step into racing.
Following the clinic, some swimmers may also be invited to join Yarra Plenty Waves squads as their next stage of development.
Do parents need to stay?
Yes. Parents/guardians should remain at the pool during each session. Please watch respectfully from the spectator area. For swimmer focus and coach safety, parents should not enter pool deck or interact with coaches during training.
