Max Bovalino

Assistant Coach

Max has been part of Yarra Plenty for many years, bringing strong competitive experience and a passion for coaching swimmers of all levels.

Max has been involved with Yarra Plenty since a young age and has competed in numerous state championship events, specialising in breaststroke and butterfly. With extensive experience competing across Victoria, he has held various roles within the club and Swim School, including On-Deck supervisor and Swim Teacher. Coaching is Max’s way to stay connected to, and give back to, the club he loves.

He is especially passionate about guiding swimmers through their first competitions, focusing on solid technique alongside speed, all while making sure training is enjoyable. Max also on occasion trains with the Masters Squad and hopes to return to competitive swimming in the future.

Outside the pool, Max studies Urban Planning at RMIT University. He believes in celebrating every success and works hard to bring out the best in swimmers of all abilities.

The Yarra River, from which our club is named, is known as Birrarung, meaning River of Mists in the language of Woiwurrung spoken by the Wurundjeri.

We acknowledge the Wurundjeri people as the traditional custodians of this land. We respect their unique ability to care for the country and their deep spiritual connection to it. We honour Elders Past and present, who have resided in the area and who are an integral part of the region's history.
