Pedro Barbosa

Head of Development

I'm Pedro, and I'm thrilled to be joining the Yarra Plenty Waves team! I bring over 30 years of experience coaching swimmers across Brazil, New Zealand, and Australia, and I'm passionate about helping athletes of all levels and backgrounds reach their full potential.

As a coach, I believe in fostering a supportive environment that's inclusive for everyone – whether you're a beginner or a seasoned competitor, aiming for state, national, or even international levels. I'm a strong advocate for multi-class athletes too, and I have experience creating programs that cater to all abilities.

Throughout my career, I've had the privilege of coaching the Brazilian National Team at the 2003 Swimming World Cup, leading state teams in various age groups for multiple years, and working extensively with Open Water swimming programs.

But beyond the titles, my greatest satisfaction comes from seeing swimmers improve and achieve their goals.  I'm a firm believer in the importance of dryland training, and I design programs that complement your pool work to maximize your performance.

The Yarra River, from which our club is named, is known as Birrarung, meaning River of Mists in the language of Woiwurrung spoken by the Wurundjeri.

We acknowledge the Wurundjeri people as the traditional custodians of this land. We respect their unique ability to care for the country and their deep spiritual connection to it. We honour Elders Past and present, who have resided in the area and who are an integral part of the region's history.
